February Newsletter
Hi Folks!
Lots to report for February!
Mid City Gras
When/Where: We’ll meet at 12:15 at the intersection of 19th and North Blvd on Feb 16.
We’ve still got some open slots to ride in the Mid City Gras Parade. Did we mention it’s free? Sign up here to ride. Bring your own throws and come dressed as your favorite sea creature!
Partnerships
We’ve recently begun new partnerships with OurStreets, which is an app-based reporting tool. It catalogs illegally parked cars, dangerous driving behavior and other such things. The more people who use it, the better it works. More about it here.
We’re also partnering with Cycliq, a company that makes rear and front-facing cameras. Get one of these, and you’ll have the evidence to back up your story should a crash or other violation happen. If interested, email us. If we have enough interest, our members can get a sweet discount!
LSU Pedestrian Safety Day
Where/when: February 27th from 10 am to 2 pm on Tower Drive on campus. We’ll have an info table here to talk about bike safety, which goes hand-in-hand with pedestrian safety. If you’re on campus, come say hello. Or if you’d like to help man the table, please contact us.
Bike-In Movie
In partnership with Tin Roof Brewery and with help from sponsors Fox Pest Control, we’ll be screening Motherload, an award-winning documentary about cargo bike-riding moms. Having kids need not prevent someone from biking, and Motherload shows us how. Event starts at 5:30 PM, Saturday February 29 at Tin Roof Brewery. We’ll start the movie shortly after, when it’s dark enough. Come early to hang out, meet some other bike people and see what Bike BR is all about….and of course, to have a beer. (click here for event on Facebook).
*There is a group ride leaving from City Park at 5:00. Details here.
Bicycle Photo Scavenger Hunt
Where/when: City Park (near the BR Gallery) on Saturday, March 21 at 1:00 PM
It’s a scavenger hunt….with a twist. We’ll give everyone a list of items and landmarks which they’ll need to photograph alongside their bike! Call it a “bike selfie scavenger hunt.” There will be prizes for those who finish first and also a photo contest for those with an artistic streak. (click here for event on Facebook).
Baton Rouge Bike Festival
Where/when: Perkins Road Community Park, Saturday 4/4/20 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM.
We’re very excited to partner with BREC to bring you a festival celebrating all things bike! There will be a velodrome race, BMX track race, a BMX freestyle demo, a group ride, a bike toss, a slow race, info booths, stuff for the kiddos, bike polo, food, a band…and more! Mark your calendars for this one. It’s gonna be a blast!
*By the way, if you’d like to volunteer to help work the festival, click here.
