May is Bike Month!
Hey all,
First off, we hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy during these challenging times.
Though we were very disappointed to have to cancel all of the fun things we had planned for April and May, we understand that everyone’s health and safety is the most important. That being said, biking in Baton Rouge has experienced a HUGE revival. It’s important that we turn this newfound (or rediscovered) enthusiasm into continued progress for those who get around on two wheels.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Pedestrian-Bike Master Plan has been finalized and has cleared its first hurdle, the Complete Streets advisory committee. Next, it will need to be approved by the Planning Commission then the Metro Council. Click the button below to see the final draft. The Planning Commission meets May 18, at 5:00 PM. You can comment online prior to then by completing this form. The Ped/Bike plan is item PA-11-20.
Bike Shops Are Open!
Capitol Cyclery, Front Yard Bikes at Mid City and the Bicycle Shop are all open, with temporarily abbreviated hours and social distancing policies. Don’t let that flat or a busted chain keep you from riding! Like always, shop local when you can.

The best way to bike somewhere is rarely the same route you would drive. On Facebook or Instagram, use the hashtag #rodetherebr, share the Bike BR route map, and post of a a picture from your ride between now and the end of May. Bike BR will randomly pick a post to win a Bike BR T-shirt or Bike BR trucker hat. We’ll host a live drawing on Facebook on June 1.
Pay it Forward Memberships
For all of May and June, Bike BR will offer additional yearly membership options as alternatives to the $15 fee we normally ask:
Donate $20 or more to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.
Purchase a gift card or certificate of $20 or more to any locally owned Baton Rouge business. (try and pick one that wasn’t able to be open during the stay-at-home order).
Donate to any employee relief fund for local employees who have been out of work due to covid19. We will accept donations to nonprofits who are helping victims of covid19 as well.
Email your receipts to info@bikebr.org and we will renew your membership for one year (your year’s membership will start on the purchase date on your receipt).
Downtown Greenway
The latest segment of the Downtown Greenway is complete! The new section starts at the intersection of North Blvd and East Blvd. It uses the median and new green dedicated bike lanes along East Blvd to connect North Blvd with South Blvd to the South at Expressway Park. Next time you’re in the area, take it for a spin!
